The Gift from Patric McCoy to Samantha Hill featuring Christophe Gilmore ‘aka’ Fluid (The Gift Project Chicago) was a multi-media installation which was inspired by a social interaction between an artist and an art collector.  McCoy (an amateur photographer and art collector) gave artist Samantha Hill a gift of 1500 digital images of the Black Male Subject which McCoy photographed from 1980 to 1992 in the US, Caribbean and Zambia.

Hill, in collaboration with musician Christophe Gilmore, created a multi-projection/music installation from McCoy’s personal photo archive within Rockefeller Memorial Chapel at the University of Chicago.   This installation was an immersive environment for the viewer to view 550 images in a four-panel slide show to an electro-jazz soundtrack.  This project was about giving and sharing in the art forum.  For more information about this project, please visit thegiftprojectchicago.wordpress.com.
